13/04/2008 - 11:17 a.m. It was my own fault. I didn't get early nights on Friday and Saturday and I have eaten crap all week. So despite bouncing around and yelling back at the award winning Mark S when he did the aerobics watrm up, I knew I was in trouble pretty early on. Then when I got out onto teh waterfront the head wind hit me. Even in the best of circumstances, this did not smell like a PB day. Fought the wind, trashed myself out endless for being so stupid on the eating and sleeping front. I was at the point where even finishing seemed a distant hope. All that kept me moving forward was that I never had a DNF (did not finish) a couple of DNS (did not start) due to injury or illness but once I stepped across the start line I have always made the finish. I did not want this to be the race that changed that. Pushed on tellingmyself that I only had to make the last point. If I could make the yacht club on the point, I could make the finish. The PB was gone but maybe I could make 55 minutes. ROunded the point and pushed down the last bay. Came round the corner onto the finish shute trying to muster some kick. Well once I saw the clock I was wishing I had tried to kick sooner. Coz the number still started with 51. Gave it death for the last 200 metres and finished in 51:40 ish. Not the 51 flat I wanted but for the day an impressive result. Now next year I have to remember to eat right and go to bed early! Jubliant
